In the College of Basic Sciences our endeavour has been to provide the students an opportunity to strike a healthy balance between curricular and co-curricular activities. The highly qualified teaching faculty is committed to fulfill our commitment to generate knowledgeable society by imparting quality teaching and providing sustainable research support.

Started as a Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities with the inception of CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, it attained the status of a full-fledged college in the year 1991. Today the College of Basic Sciences constitutes four departments, namely, Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Department of Microbiology, Department of Physical Sciences and Languages and a Center of Geo-informatics Research and Training. The college provides undergraduate (Medical and Non-medical), postgraduate (M. Sc. in the disciplines of Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Sciences, and Microbiology ) and Ph. D. in disciplines of Biochemistry and Microbiology [Refer to Office of Dean Post Graduate Studies for details]. Besides providing teaching support to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of all other constituent colleges (College of Agriculture, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, College of Home Science) of the University. Participation in either National Cadet Core (NCC) or National Service Scheme (NSS) by every student who enrols in our undergraduate programmes is mandatory.

Students are also encouraged to participate actively in sports, athletics, literary and other intra and inter University co-curricular activities. The faculty and the students also involve themselves in various National and State programmes organized at the college and University level. Organization of National Science Day, World Environment Day, Earth Day, Communal Harmony Week, and Teacher's Day are some of the regular features of the College.

The college campus has a perfect ambience against the backdrop of the majestic Dhauladhar range of Himalayas. The buildings housing different departments and laboratories are being renovated and modernized. Well equipped Central Instruments Laboratory, Examination Hall, Herbal Garden, Bamboo Block, Vermi-composting Unit cater well to the Teaching, Research, Extension Education and other academic requirements of the University.
