Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore was established in the year 1950 and has earned a good reputation for its research work. The institute has played an important role in areas of human resource development and R&D partnerships by having international linkages with institutions such as the Institute of Food Technologists (USA), UN University (Tokyo), European Economic Commission (Belgium), National Science Foundation (USA) and much more. It has large laboratory headed by Ram Rajashekaran.

Central Food Technological Research Institute provides postgraduate and research programs in specific fields of specializations.

  • Master of Science in Food Technology course was started in the year 1964. Admission to this course is based on the Merit-cum-Entrance Exam conducted by the university. The minimum eligibility required for admission is a Bachelor’s Degree in Science / Agriculture / Engineering / Technology with a minimum of 50% marks secured.
  • Integrated M.Sc - Ph.D. Program (Nutrition Biology) is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology and has been designed to emphasize the fundamentals of nutrition and metabolism at the molecular and organism level. The main focus is on enhancing the research capacity in Nutrition Biology area, particularly Food and Health/Disease. Minimum eligibility is B.Tech/ B.E/ M.B.B.S/ B.Pharm - in Biotechnology, Food Technology/ Agriculture / Medicine / Pharmacology Courses.
  • Ph.D. Program can be pursued in various fields of Biological Science like Biochemistry/Bioscience/Biotechnology/Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Food Science/Food Technology/Food Science & Nutrition/Chemistry. Ph. D Engineering. The minimum eligibility required for Ph.D. in Science, M.Sc/ M.Tech in related field with any of the above mentioned valid fellowship. For Ph.D. in Engineering, B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech with valid fellowship.
