The Central Agricultural University was established in 1993 by an act of parliament Under the Central Agricultural University Act 1992 (Act No. 40 of 1992). This University has Unique feature Of Having Jurisdiction Over Six States Of North East Hill.  

Like other Agricultural Universities, Central Agricultural University, Imphal has Integrated Programmes of teaching, resarch and extension education. As per the mandate, the university has established diffrent constituent Colleges, namely; College of Agriculture(Imphal, Manipur) College of Fisheries (Agartala, tripura), College of Home science(Tura, Meghalaya), College of horticulture & Forestry(Passighat, ArunachalPradesh), College Of Veterinary sciences & Animal Husbandry(Aizawl, Mizoram), College Of Agricultural Engineering and Post Harvest technology(Gangtok, Sikkim), and College of Postgraduate Studies(Barapani, Meghalaya). Except for the college of Agriculture (erstwhile manipur Agricultural College, Imphal), other constituent Colleges of University Came In TO Existence after the establishment of University.

 

THE COLLEGE

The College of Veterinary sciences & Animal Husbandry, one of the constituent colleges of the CAU was established through the promulgation of an ordinance (No. M-2 of 1995;dated 20th February 1995) and became functional with the admission of first batch of students to B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course in the year 1997.

The College is located at Selesih, North Aizawl that is about 12 km away from Aizawl, the capital city of MIZORAM, on the Aizawl-Sihphir-Silchar sub-highway. The Campus of the College is spread over 168.61 acres of land, mostly of hilly terrain at an altitude of 965 meters the sea level. The Climate of Aizawl is very pleasant, generally cool in summer and not very cold in winter. The minimum and maximum temperature ranges from 7o-8oc to 30o-32oc . It rains heavily from May to September and the average annual rainfall is about 2500 mm.

The jurisdiction of the College extends to different North Eastern Hill Sates that includes the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim. The College has 17(Seventeen) Teaching Departments and a Clinical Veterinary Teaching Complex as per the Minimum Standard For Veterinary Education Regulation-1993 prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India.  

 

MANDATE

The mandates of the College of Veterinary sciences & Animal Husbandry are

  • To impart education in different branches of Veterinary sciences & Animal Husbandry;
  • To further the advancement of learning and prosecution of research on Veterinary sciences &  Animal Husbandry;
  • To undertake programmes of extension education in states under jurisdiction;
  • To undertake such other activities as it may deem fit from time to time.

 

VISION

The Vision of the college is to be a Centre of Excellence in teaching, research and extension education in the field of veterinary and Animal sciences.

 

MISSION

The Mission of the college is to cater teaching, researchand extension need of the North-Eastern Hill region of India to benifit the Animals, People and envoirement through promotion of Animal health, alleviation of animal suffering, efficient and responsible animal production, conservation of animals and broader ecological resources and protection of public health.
