Indian Institute Of Science was founded by Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata in 1909. The institute was established to promote scientific temper and research attitude in the nation. With 34 departments and centers organized into the 6 divisions, IISc offers the industry a large talent pool to choose from. IISc admissions are based on the entrance exams such as GATE/ CAT/ GMAT/ CEED. 

IISc Bangalore Courses

IISc Bangalore offers various level of programs such as Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral courses. 

  • IISc offers admission to its four-year Bachelor of Science (Research) program. Students who will appear for the 12th board exams and those who have passed in 12th boards are eligible for admission.
  • Various postgraduate courses offered in IISc are Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Design (M.Des). Eligibility Criteria for admission in BE/ B Tech/ B Des/ B Arch degrees, with valid GATE or CEED scores. Selection of M.Tech and M.Des is based on valid GATE Scores. 
  • Master of Management (M.Mgt) is a postgraduate program with the student intake of 15. Candidates need to qualify BE/ B.Tech or equivalent degree (with a valid GATE or CAT or GMAT). Selection of candidates will be based on screening of GATE 2017/2018 /2019 / CAT 2018 /GMAT scores, group discussion and personal interview conducted at the Institute.
  • The Institute offers various opportunities for pursuing advanced research in areas of science, engineering, and technology. Ph.D. is offered in 38 different fields of specialization.

IISc Bangalore Placements

IISc has an Office of Career Counselling and Placement (OCCaP) which takes care of students placement process. The placement process adopted by the IISC is as follows:

  • Placement season begins in September and goes on till May. Invitations are sent to recruiters by OCCaP. New recruiters contact directly by sending a brief email and explaining their interest.
  • Interested Recruiters are registered on the OCCaP website for Final Placements. Interested students appear for the recruitment process through an online portal. Details of interested students are made available to recruiters through OCCaP.
  • The job description is made available to eligible students after they apply. The recruiters fill an online job description Form containing details of the job and the offer.
  • Recruiters can shortlist students online. They also maintain a waitlist of students who can be interviewed in the event of non-availability of some of the shortlisted students. Recruiters visit the campus on the allotted date(s) and conduct tests and interviews according to their internal recruitment processes.
  • The final list of selected students is shared with OCCaP.

IISc Bangalore B.Sc (Research) Admissions 2020

The institute offers a four year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc Research) program in six specializations. The minimum required eligibility for admission to B.Sc (Research) is the candidate should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry as main subjects and minimum 60% marks. Candidates who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., in addition to Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are also eligible to apply. Note 1: Students who complete all requirements for the award of B.Sc (Research) degree have the option of getting an M.Sc degree by studying at the Institute for a fifth year. The M.Sc degree will be awarded in six Major disciplines currently available in the Undergraduate Programme.

Note 2: Students opting for the M.Sc programme will get both B.Sc (Research) and M.Sc degrees at the end of the fifth year if they complete all requirements for the award of M.Sc degree.

Note 3: In its bid to encourage education and research, the Institute also has a provision for the scholarship for meritorious and economically weaker students. Depending on their performance in national examinations such as KVPY, IITJEE (Main and Advanced), and AIPMT, the students will be able to avail themselves of the standard fellowships offered by agencies such as KVPY and DST-INSPIRE.

The following categories of candidates are eligible to apply for admission to M.Tech/ M.Des/ M.Mgt. programs:

  • Bachelor’s degree holders in Engineering/Technology or its equivalent.

All the candidates should possess valid GATE scores for M.Tech, GATE/CEED scores for M.Des, and GATE/CAT/GMAT scores for M.Mgt course. In the case of candidates with equal GATE score, their performance in the qualifying examination will be used to resolve the tie. 

IISc Bangalore Ph.D. & M.Tech (Research) Admission 2020

Along with B.Sc (Research) and PG courses, the institute also offers Integrated PhD program in selected disciplines. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology/Biotechnology/ Chemistry/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Pharmacy/ Veterinary Sciences/ Agriculture with a valid JAM score are eligible to apply to this program. Those in the final year of their qualifying examination and awaiting results are also eligible to apply.

How to Apply for M.Tech, M.Des, M.Mgt & Ph.D. at IISc Bangalore?

The application form can be filled by following the below-listed steps:

  1. Candidates seeking admission can submit the application forms through online mode from the official website.
  2. The application fee is INR 800 for GN/OBC/KM candidates and INR 400 for SC/ST/PWD categories.
  3. Application fee can be submitted online through any of the following online payment modes viz. Net-banking, Visa Card/ Master Card, Debit/Credit Cards.
  4. Candidates intimated for the aptitude test/group discussion and interview should bring the attested copies of all their transcripts (marks cards from SSLC or its equivalent onwards, degree certificates of the qualifying examinations, etc.).
