IIT Guwahati Admission is done on the basis of national level entrance scores followed by cut off marks declared by the institutes. Applicants who successfully qualify the required exam and obtain minimum cut off marks are eligible for admission to IIT Guwahati.

IIT Guwahati Scholarships

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) offers scholarships to deserving graduate and postgraduate students. 

• Institute Merit Scholarship (IMS): This scholarship is available for B.Tech/ B.Des/ M.Sc/ M.A students of the institute. IMS is awarded to year-wise class toppers of every stream. It involves a tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for eight months.

• Institute Merit-cum-Means Scholarships (McM): McM is awarded to B.Des/ B.Tech/ MA/ M.Sc students on the basis of their Merit (Up to 25% of the non-SC/ST). It covers tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for eight months.
• SC/ ST Scholarship: It is awarded to all B.Tech/ B.Des/ MA/ M.Sc students of SC/ ST categories. It includes a fixed monthly stipend for eight months, free messing (only for the basic menu) and a hostel seat rent waiver. Tuition fee is waived for all SC/ST students by the statutes

IIT Guwahati spreads across a beautiful and green 703 acres of land on the banks of river Brahmaputra. The college offers the following facilities and amenities to students on campus: 

• Hostel: Separate hostels are available for male and female students that want to avail hostel facility. Students get one room each, which is well built and has internet connectivity. Other amenities in the hostel include indoor games and a gymnasium. Outdoor sports include basketball, volleyball and football. A 24-hour canteen is also available for students in the hostel to cater to their needs. Flat-lets for married students are also available. 
• Shopping complex: A commercial shopping complex is available to fulfill the daily needs of campus residents, where they can buy many essential commodities.

IIT Guwahati (IITG) Admission 2020: B.Tech, Ph.D. & M.Tech Admission

IIT Guwahati was established in the year 1994 as an institute of National Importance by the Government of India. At present, it offers B.Tech, B.Des, M.Tech, MA, MS by Research, Ph.D. & PDF courses in various disciplines. IIT Guwahati also offers Integrated M.Tech+ Ph.D. and MS+Ph.D. programs. Application form can be filled online by visiting the official website of IITG except for Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) programs for which the application form is required to be filled online followed by offline submission.

• Students have to qualify in JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced to secure admission in B.Tech program.
• A valid score in Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) is required to get admission in B.Des course.
• A valid score in GATE is mandatory for M.Tech and Integrated M.Tech courses. Final admission is done through counselling (CCMT).
• IIT Guwahati conducts its own Written Test followed by an Interview to offer admission in MA (Development Studies).
• M.Des requires a valid score in CEED conducted by IIT Bombay.
• GATE/ NET (JRF)/ INSPIRE/ CEED qualified candidates can apply for MS by Research and Ph.D. programs.
• IITG also offers admission in Part-Time/ External/ Self-Finance/ Sponsored and Project Staff categories.

IIT Guwahati B.Tech & B.Des Admission 2020

IITG offers full-time B.Tech and B.Des courses in various discipline for the duration of four years. Students have to qualify in both JEE Main and JEE Advanced to secure admission in B.Tech. UCEED score is mandatory for B.Des program. The minimum eligibility criteria for B.Tech is 75% marks in 10+2 with PCM/B while 10+2 pass is sufficient for B.Des. 

IIT Guwahati (IITG) M.Tech, MA, M.Des & MS By Research Admission 2020

IITG also offers M.Tech, MA, MS by Research and M.Des courses in several specializations. M.Tech, MA programs are offered in both regular and sponsored modes. GATE/ CEED qualified candidates can apply for M.Tech (Regular & Integrated)/ M.Des programs respectively. Final admission is based on counselling conducted at national level. IIT Guwahati conducts separate written test and interview for MA in Development Studies.

Key Points:

• Teaching Assistantships of INR 12,400 per month will be given to the students with a valid score in GATE/ CEED.
• For M.Des/ M.Tech and MS by Research courses. Students who have completed their BE/ B.Tech degree from IITs with CPI of 8.0 or above will be exempted from the requirement of GATE/ CEED score.
• Sponsored, Part-Time and IITG Project Staff categories are exempted from GATE provided they have to satisfy the condition of minimum work experience required.

IIT Guwahati Ph.D. & PDF Admission 2020

Ph.D. program is available in Regular, Sponsored, Part-Time, and Self-Financed modes. Project Staff of IITG can also apply for this course. GATE/ NET (JRF)/ INSPIRE or CEED qualified candidates can apply for Ph.D. IITG also offers admission to PDF in different specializations. Initially, the candidates will be shortlisted as per their applications and then they will be called for further Department-Based interview rounds.

Key Points:

• A candidate having BE/ B.Tech in the relevant discipline with a postgraduate degree in Management Science/ Finance or MBA in Finance with 60% marks in aggregate is also eligible for admission in the area of ‘Construction Management’ in the department of Civil Engineering.
• Candidates having M.Sc with Mathematics with an aggregate of 70% marks at PG level are also eligible for admission to Ph.D. (Civil Engineering).
• A candidate with M.Sc degree with at least 70% marks in aggregate is also eligible for admission to Ph.D. (Biotechnology).
• Postgraduates in Computer Science from IETE with 60% marks in aggregate are also eligible for admission to Ph.D. (Computer Science).
• A student of IITG who is studying B.Tech can apply for Ph.D. in the seventh semester. Such student will receive dual degree of B.Tech-Ph.D. after completion of Ph.D.
• Assistantships of INR 25000 for JRF and INR 28000 for SRF will be offered by IITG during Ph.D. coursework
• Part-Time/ Sponsored and External candidates must have at least one-year of relevant work experience at the time of admission.
• For PDF program, selected candidates will be eligible for Assistantships of INR 40000 to INR 50000 per month.

IIT Guwahati (IITG) Application Process 2020

IITG follows a common application process for all the courses except for PDF. Students can follow the given steps in order to complete the application process:

1. Visit the official website of IIT Guwahati.
2. Click on ‘Online Application Form’ and fill the application form.
3. Upload the scanned copies of desired documents.
4. Take the printout of duly filled form and sign it over the designated place.
5. No fee needs to be submitted for filling the application form. It will be required only and only if he/she is called to appear in Written Test and/or Interview.
