IIT Kharagpur was established by the government of India in the year 1951. The institute is one of the top IITs and was ranked 4 as per NIRF 2019. Internationally, IIT Kharagpur was ranked 281 in the QS World University Rankings of 2020, 53 in Asia and 23 among BRICS nations.

IIT Kharagpur Admission Process

The flagship courses of IIT Kharagpur are BTech and BArch.

• IIT Kharagpur admission to BTech and BArch is conducted on the basis of JEE Main and JEE Advanced ranks followed by JoSAA counselling
• MTech admissions to IIT Kharagpur are conducted on the basis of GATE score
• Admission to MSc and MBA is based on JAM and CAT scores respectively
• In order to seek admission to MS and PhD programmes, the candidates are required to appear for written tests and personal interviews conducted by the institution
