NID Courses
National Institute of Design offers 8 specializations at the undergraduate level, 19 specializations at the postgraduate level, and many specializations in doctoral programs. The details of the courses and their eligibility are elaborated below:
Course 1: Bachelor Of Design (B.Des)
- Duration - 4 Years
- Specializations - Exhibition Des., Ceramic & Glass Des., Film & Video Communication, Furniture & Interior Des., Graphic Des., Product Des., and Textile Des.
- Eligibility - Intermediate (10+2) with at least 55% from any recognized university; the maximum age limit is 20 years old.

Course 2: Master Of Design (M.Des)
- Duration - 2.5 Years

NID Admission
The Institute invites application for several undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. In order to take admission in mentioned courses, candidates will have to appear for NID Entrance Exams - DAT and DRT
DAT ( Design Aptitude Test): This exam is compulsory for undergraduate and postgraduate aspirants. The entrance is further divided into two phases - Prelims and Mains, consisting of objective and subjective questions.
DRT (Design Reseach Test): This exam is compulsory for Ph.D. aspirants. The entrance consists of objective and subjective questions and carries 100 marks in total.
Online Registration Procedure
The admission and selection procedures for undergraduate & postgraduate courses are done through DAT (Design Aptitude Test) whereas the admission and selection procedure for doctoral courses is through DRT (Design Research Test).

NID Scholarships

NID Ahmedabad Admission 2020: UG & PG Admission, Application process
The National Institute of Design (NID) is a design school established in the year of 1961 in Ahmedabad, India. NID offers professional educational programmes at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level with five faculty streams and 20 diverse design domains.
Admission to all of the design courses is granted on the basis of Design Aptitude Tests which will be conducted in two stages : Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims and Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains. Based on the Merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains.
The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and behavioural abilities of candidates.dd

- Reservation of seats for other courses are as follows:

NID Ahmedabad UG Admission 2020
At undergraduate level, the Bachelor of Designing (B.Des) course is offered under eight different specializations from the NID Ahmedabad Campus. The institute also offers Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD). The duration period of both the courses is four years.
Admission to the UG courses is on the basis of Design Aptitude Tests which will be conducted in two stages : Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims and Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains. Based on the Merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains.
- Candidates should note that appearing for the DAT Prelims or being ranked in the shortlist does not guarantee automatic entitlement to admission
- For candidates applying in B.Des. and GDPD, the choice of preference of programme or campus does not guarantee a seat. Allotment of campus is purely as per merit

NID Ahmedabad PG Admission 2020
At postgraduate level, NID offers Master of Designing (M.Des) program under 18 different specializations. The duration period of all the PG courses is two and a half years.
Admission to the UG courses is on the basis of Design Aptitude Tests which will be conducted in two stages : Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims and Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains. Based on the Merit list of DAT Prelims, eligible candidates will have to appear for DAT Mains.
The final merit list for each discipline of the M.Des. programme will be generated category wise, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate at each stage of the admission process. The weightage of DAT Prelims and DAT Mains will be as decided by the Senate of the institute.
- Upper age limit for candidates for the PG program is 30 years of age (relaxable by three years for reserved category) on or before July 1
- 2 seats per specialization are allotted for overseas (supernumerary) candidates
- Aspiring candidates can apply to a maximum of ONLY TWO disciplines for the Master of Design program

NID Ahmedabad Ph.D Admission 2020
The Ph.D. programme is offered in both full-time and part-time formats. The full-time Ph.D. programme is of three years’ duration and will include a stipend given to the candidate for three years.
Applications shall be shortlisted on the basis of the eligibility criteria and the proposal submitted by the candidate. The content of the proposal will be examined from the point of view of alignment with NID’s research objectives, appropriateness of content, plagiarism and the overall potential of the research.
Shortlisted candidates have to go through the Design Research Test (DRT) which will be conducted at NID Ahmedabad Campus. Appearing for the DRT or being included in the shortlist does not guarantee admission into the programme.
Candidates shortlisted after the DRT will be invited to appear for an interview and make presentations to a committee at NID.
