National Institute of Design is an autonomous institute formed under the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Government of India. The Institute is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It offers Master’s degree in Design (M.Des.) for two and a half years. The admission to the courses is granted through the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) which is divided into two modules. It is conducted to assess candidates’ basic knowledge, abilities, and skills.

• Candidates applying in M.Des. course must hold 3-year Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline.
• Applicants having passed four-year bachelor’s degree or diploma after 10+2 are also eligible to apply for the program.
• Candidates who have applied for M.Des. program need to appear in DAT entrance exam to be eligible for consideration for admission.
• DAT is conducted in two rounds—Prelims and Mains.
• Final selection will be based on DAT followed by Personal Interview conducted by the Institute.

M.Des. is offered in five major specializations in Bengaluru campus namely, Universal Design, Digital Game Design, Information Design, Interaction Design or Design for Retail Experience. Admission for two and a half year full-time M.Des. program will be based on fulfillment of basic eligibility criteria in addition to the scores in Design Aptitude Test as well as the qualifying exam. Candidates applying for M.Des. must have passed three-year or four-year Bachelor’s degree from a UGC recognized university.

National Institute Of Design, Bangalore Application Process 2020

Students applying for any of the M.Des. program by NID, Bangalore must visit its official website to complete the application process online. However, candidates will have to appear in Design Aptitude Test before registering themselves for admissions. Applications for the course can be submitted through only through online mode.

• Visit the official website to register and apply for M.Des. offered by the Institute.
• Provide a valid email and phone number for the future reference.
• Log in to the account and duly fill in the necessary details and click on save tab.
• In the next step, proceed to upload the documents, photograph, and signature.
• All the documents need to be in .jpeg or .jpg format.
• After uploading all the documents, click on save and proceed to pay the application fee.
• The application fee is INR 2000 for one discipline and INR 4000 for two disciplines. (INR 1000 for one and INR 2000 for two disciplines for SC/ST candidates).
• Payment can be done either online or offline through demand draft.
• Take the print out of the application form for future reference.
• Candidates may also visit the campus with documents to edit the application form.
• The applicant will have to appear in Design Aptitude Test and interviews which will be conducted in two stages after the application is submitted on or before a prescribed date.
• Merit list of shortlisted candidates will be prepared based on the qualifying exam as well as performance in the entrance exam and interviews which will be uploaded on the official website.
• Selected candidates will have to appear in the Institute on a given date to confirm the seat.
