National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi Admission 2020: UG & PG Admissions, Reservation, Scholarship

National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi campus is one of the oldest NIFTs conducting Fashion courses in the country. The New Delhi campus was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. It is one of the 16 NIFT campuses located in various parts of the country.

At the undergraduate level, the NIFT New Delhi campus offers a B.FTech. program in Apparel Production and B. Des. courses in up to 6 specializations. The institute provides three programs at the post-graduate level, viz. M. Des., M.F.M. and M.FTech. The intake capacity for the B.Des. program is 240 per year with 30 seats per specialization. The B. FTech program has a total of 30 seats. For the PG courses, NIFT New Delhi has an intake of 30 seats per program.

• Applications are invited through a single online admission portal and candidates can apply online while remitting the fees in both offline (via DD) and online modes (via Debit/Credit cards).
• Offline applications must be sent to NIFT Head Quarters along with DD of requisite fee within the given time period.
• Eligibility criteria for UG courses is to pass in class 12 examinations.
• M.Des and MFM needs a pass in three-year bachelor’s degree in any discipline.
• Candidates with a B.FTech degree or a B.E./ B. Tech degree in any discipline are eligible to apply for the M.FTech program.
• Selection of candidates for the B.Des. program is done on the basis of a Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) score, followed by a Situation Test for shortlisted candidates.
• Candidates for B.FTech program are selected on the basis of their performance in GAT only.
• Selection of candidates for the M.Des. program is done on the basis of CAT and GAT score followed by a GD/ PI round. For M.F.M. and M.FTech. admission, selection is based on GAT score and the candidate’s performance in the GD/ PI session.

NIFT, New Delhi UG Admission 2020

The Institute offers a Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) program with specializations in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, and Fashion Communication. It also offers a Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech.) program in Apparel Production.

The basic eligibility criteria for admission to the B.Des. course is a pass in 10+2 or equivalent exam from a recognized board. For admission to the B.FTech. program, candidates must pass 10+2 in science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Selection of candidates for the B.Des. program is done on the basis of a (Creative Ability Test) CAT and General Ability Test (GAT) score, followed by a Situation Test for shortlisted candidates. Candidates for B.FTech program are selected on the basis of their performance in GAT only.

Key Points:

• During selection of candidates for the B.Des. programs, 50% weightage is given to CAT score, 30% to GAT score and the remaining 20% to the Situation Test score.
• Candidates with a 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education are also eligible to apply.

NIFT, New Delhi PG Admission 2020

NIFT, New Delhi campus offers three fashion master degree courses at the postgraduate level. The courses include Master’s in Design (M. Des.), Master’s in Fashion Management (M.F.M) and Master’s in Fashion Technology (M. FTech). Candidates seeking admission to M.F.M. program must have a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.

For admission to M.Des. program, candidates must possess a Bachelor Degree from any recognized institute. Candidates with a B.FTech degree or a B.E./ B. Tech degree in any discipline are eligible to apply for the M.FTech program.

Selection of candidates for the M.Des. program is done on the basis of CAT and GAT score followed by a Group Discussion/ Personal Interview (GD/ PI) round. For M.F.M. and M.FTech. admission, selection is based on GAT score and the candidate’s performance in the GD/ PI session.

Key Points:

• Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply provided they produce a proof of having acquired the minimum prescribed qualifications at the time of counselling/ admission.
• Candidates with 3-year undergraduate Diploma from NIFT or National Institute of Design (NID) are eligible to apply for M.F.M.
• For M.Des. admissions, 40% weightage is given to CAT score, 30% to GAT score and the remaining 30% to GD/ PI.
• Weightage given to GAT score for M.F.M. and M.FTech. admission is 70%, while the remaining 30% weightage is given to GD/PI.

NIFT, New Delhi Application Process 2020

National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) New Delhi campus accepts applications from eligible candidates through a centralized application process which is common for all campuses. The detailed application process for the same is as follows:

• Candidates seeking admission to the various programs offered by NIFT New Delhi may visit the institute website and apply online.
• Candidates must ensure fulfilment of eligibility criteria before filling the online application form.
• It is hence advisable to go through the application guidelines mentioned in the prospectus prior to applying.
• All requisite information in the application form must be entered correctly. Candidates are advised to feed only the latest contact information for communication purpose.
• Candidates may choose between online and offline mode for payment of application fee.
• For online payments, credit/ debit card or internet banking may be used.
• Only Bank Drafts are accepted for offline fee payment.
• Candidates wishing to pay the application fee through demand draft must obtain the draft prior to filling the application form, and also must furnish details of the DD in the online application form.

NIFT New Delhi campus currently offers financial assistance to eligible and meritorious candidates based on several parameters. The following scholarships are currently being offered by the NIFT:

1. NIFT Means – cum – Merit Financial Assistance Scheme: NIFT New Delhi offers additional financial assistance to meritorious students as per norms laid under the Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance Scheme. Candidates in need of monetary benefits can apply for this facility by submitting an application with proof of parental income certificate. The Student Development Activity Coordinator (SDAC) must be contacted for the purpose.
2. Assistantship Program: NIFT New Delhi also offers financial assistance to students through an on-campus Student Assistantship Program. According to this scheme, candidates can seek part-time employment within the institute.
