SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) was established as SRM Engineering College under the University of Madras in 1985. The private deemed university offers several postgraduate, doctoral and undergraduate programmes in management, engineering, medicine, health sciences, science and humanities. Its main campus is situated in Kattankulathur in Tamil Nadu and consists of one school and three colleges. The institution has three other campuses; two in Tamil Nadu in Vadapalani and Ramapuram and one in Ghaziabad, NCR.

Those seeking admission at SRM IST are required to apply by submitting a duly filled application form. The application process can also be completed online. Admission to most of the programmes is granted through a national-level entrance test held by the institution or recognized agencies or boards. Admission to some other programmes is given according to the merit in the previous qualifying examination. Besides this, a candidate's eligibility for admission depends on the fulfilment of the requirement of minimum marks in the previous qualifying exam as well. 

Various qualifying exams conducted by the university include SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam (SRMJEEE) - UG for BTech admission, SRMJEEE for MTech admission and SRM Joint Entrance Exam Management (SRMJEEM) - PG for MBA admission.

SRM Institute of Science and Technology Scholarships

SRM IST offers numerous scholarships, research and teaching assistance and fee waiver schemes to deserving and meritorious students. Many students greatly benefit from these schemes. In the academic session of 2017-18, around 2650 students received assistance under various schemes. An amount of Rs. 28.9 crore, was distributed as a scholarship in the same year. 

The institution grants a 50% fee waiver to the students who obtained more than 95% marks in the State Board or CBSE examinations. It also offers Founder's Scholarship to top state, JEE, SRMJEEE and AIEEE rankers, socio-economic disdained and sportspersons. Under this scholarship, the recipients receive a full waiver on hostels, tuition, books and mess along with a monthly stipend of INR 1,000.
