The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, which was founded by Mother Mary of the Passion in 1877, manages the college. In Madras, it was the first women’s college which offers masters in fine arts, economics and English.

Stella Maris College, Chennai Admission Process
The application form needs to be filled up by candidates and submitted. Candidates who have been provisionally selected will be called for an interview. For taking admission to BA (English) degree course and postgraduate programme, candidates have to secure qualifying marks in the entrance examination.
They also have to appear for an interview. Candidates selected for BVA course have to appear for an aptitude test and interview. In the aptitude test, questions will be asked on drawing and designing.

The college has a career guidance cell which arranges recruitment drive every year. It provides guidance to the students and organises training programmes for students of final year. It also offers assistance to students who want to pursue higher education.
