The Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute also known as BMCRI was founded in 1955 by Mysore Education Society. The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences since 1996. The college offers UG, PG, Diploma and Certificate courses in various field of Medical Science
- The college was granted autonomous status by the Government of Karnataka in 2006
- It is one of the leading institutions in India providing quality medical education and health care services
- The four major hospitals attached to this institution which caters to half of the population of Bangalore City and surrounding areas are Victoria Hospital, Vani Vilas Women and Children’s Hospital, Minto Ophthalmic Hospital, Bowring & Lady Curzon Hospital

- Dr. Y. G. Parameshwara- Alumnus and former faculty in pharmacology was the first blind person to qualify as a doctor of medicine in India
- Dr. Sheshachalam- Former professor of surgery who discovered the accessory appendicular artery of Sheshachalam
- Dr. Udaya Bhanu Surya Prakash- The first non-American to be elected president of the Association of Chest Physicians of America in its more than 100 years of history and winner of the Karnataka Rajyothsava Award – 2008
- Dr.Kumud Bhalla-The first graduate in the World and the youngest Indian to give presentation at The World congress on Heart diseases for his work on drug Plavix
- Dr. T.K. Sreepada Rao- Personal nephrologist to Jayaprakash Narayan and M.G. Ramachandran and considered to be among the top ten cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons in the country
Extra-Curricular:
The extracurricular activities of the college includes organization of events of almost importance, students welfare activities and also various other activities like sport activities for the students.
- Sports- The committee appointed for organizing extracurricular events organizes various intra college football, cricket, athletic, table tennis, volley ball and many other indoor games e.g. chess, carom etc. The college also organizes Annual Sports Day
- KannadaSangha- The college conducts Kannada literary activities, cultural programs, folk and sports activities culminating into the grand celebration of Kannada Rajyotsava on November 1st
- College Magazine- The college publishes annual magazine, Ambrosia. The students are encouraged to contribute articles
Library:
- Library and Information Centre is located in an independent block and form an integral part of the institution. It is rich in its collection and has a wide variety of books and journals
- It is a hybrid, digital and Electronic Library that uses the latest technology for provision of information through various services
- The library is divided into two floors with provision for, reference section, textbooks section, stock area, periodical section , back volume area, , dissertation section, audio/video section, computer workstation with internet facility and access to e-resources, Librarian office and technical section and own book reading area

Festivals:
Besides the important functions like annual college day, national festivals, graduation day BMCRI organizes annual events also. The festivals organized at BMCRI from time to time are the following:
- Annual fest called “Cobalt Skies” which includes a plethora of events including literary and arts, cultural and sports
- Medical Fest called “Panacea” which is also one of the biggest medical fests in south India
- Annual Intra College Fest called “Chrysalis”
