Elphinstone College occupies a unique position in the annals of education in the country. It is an outstanding place of learning which came into existences much before the University of Mumbai, to which it was later on affiliated.

The Institution is known for its open access to student from all strata of the society. This includes various communities, income groups and interests.
The building of the College with its gothic architecture has been classified as a grade 1 Heritage structure.

Infrastructure goes a long way in enriching the teaching learning experience. The College has recently developed five 'smart' class rooms with interactive boards.

The College hosts Four intercollegiate festivals:

Maharashtra Utsav brings out the flavour of the State of Maharashtra. This is a festival of music, dance, street plays, debate, besides creative arts such as rangoli, pot painting, etc. this has a good response from colleges all over Maharashtra. It receives a wide coverage in print media, television and radio channels.

Elphinstone College, established in year 1856, is a public institute affiliated to Mumbai University. The college is situated in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Elphinstone college currently offers courses in Arts, Science and Commerce fields at UG level. BA and B.Sc. are offered with three majors in different subject combinations with over 100 seats while BCom is offered with over 50 seats. The admission to all the UG level programs is merit based on the 10+2 marks obtained in the Maharashtra

Candidates applying for BA must have at least 40% marks at 10+2.
For B. Sc candidates, Mathematics is a compulsory subject at 10+2.
A student who has passed Diploma in Computer Engineering /Computer Science/Computer Technology/ Information Technology/Electrical, Electronics & Video Engineering and allied branches/Mechanical and allied branches, civil and allied branches of Engineering after S.S.C. (Xth Standard) is eligible for direct admission to the Second Year of the B.Sc. (I.T.) degree course.

Elphinstone College offers courses in BA with various different combinations. The main subjects are – Economics, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Marathi, Sociology, and Political Science. Preference for awarding scholarship is given to candidates who have managed to clear all the examination and have remained students of Elphinstone College throughout their College and university career.
In case students transferred from other colleges have obtained an aggregate of 55% in their terminal examinations, they can also be considered for the scholarship awards.
There are several determining factors for awarding scholarship such as good conduct, satisfactory progress, and regularity in attendance.
Candidates awarded scholarships are however not exempted from payment of College and Gymkhana Fee.

The Dorab Tata Special Scholarships: Managed by the Sir J.H. Bhabha Memorial Trust, for very meritorious students from Standard XII (Junior College). Candidates will get a scholarship of INR 150/- per month.
The J.H. Bhabha Memorial Scholarships: This is also managed by Sir J.H. Bhabha Memorial Trust. Candidates from economically modest family background pursuing B.A./B.Sc (First Year) are eligible or monthly scholarship of INR 150/-.
Scholarship is admissible for first year but can be renewed for the second and third year depending on candidates’ annual examination performance.
