IIT Madras Courses and Eligibility

IIT Madras offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research programs in streams like Engineering, Sciences, Humanities, and Management. Given below is a brief about the programs with their eligibility:

• B.Tech - The applicant must have passed 10+2 in Science stream with a minimum of 75% marks. The selection to the program will be on the basis of JEE Main and JEE Advanced score. Final selection will be made by JoSAA Counselling committee.

• M.Tech- Graduation in a relevant subject (B.E./ B.Tech) with at least 6.5 CGPA (on 10 point scale) or 60% marks from a recognized Institute. Applicants will be selected on the basis of GATE score followed by Counselling.

• M.Sc. - Bachelor’s degree in respective discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks. Selection will be based on JAM score followed by counseling.

• M.A. - Intermediate with 55% marks from a recognized body. Selection will be based on the Humanities and Social Science Entrance Exam (HSEE) score.

• M.S (By Research) - B.E./ B.Tech degree and qualify GATE/ CSIR NET/ UGC NET exam.

• Ph.D. - Masters or dual degree in the relevant discipline with the CGPA of 6.5 or above. The applicant will be selected on the basis of their performance in GATE/ UGC NET/ CSIR NET and personal interview.

• MBA - A valid score in the Common Admissions Test (CAT) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management and must be a Graduate in any discipline with minimum 60% marks from a recognized/ reputed University.

IIT Madras Admission 2020: M.Tech & Ph.D. Admissions, Important Dates, Cutoff, Selection Criteria

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras was established in 1959. The institute is highly reputed and has been ranked at the first position by the NIRF under the discipline of Engineering and at the 15th position under the discipline of Management. IITM offers B.Tech, M.Tech. M.Sc, M.A, MBA, and Ph.D. courses in various disciplines at UG, PG, and Research level.

B.Tech. is offered under nine specializations. The institute also offers a 13 dual degree programs under the disciplines of Engineering and Science. Admission to the same will be granted on the basis of the JEE Main score followed by counseling (JoSAA). The candidates need to qualify both JEE Main as well as JEE Advanced for the final admission.

At the PG level, M.Tech. is offered under 12 specializations. To be eligible for admission, the candidates must possess a B.Tech. degree with a minimum of 60% marks. Admissions to M.Sc and M.Tech courses are based on candidate’s JAM and GATE ranking, respectively.  

The MBA program is offered under six specializations. Admission to the same is done on the basis of CAT/GMAT score. For the purpose of final selection, candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the following parameters:

IIT Madras B.Tech. Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must have completed 10+2 from the recognized board.
• Minimum 75% marks in Higher Secondary Examination. There will be no preference of 10+2 marks for calculating the ranks in JEE Main.

Candidates must appear for JEE Main and JEE Advanced score followed by counseling (JoSAA).

Note:

• Candidates who graduated from IITs with a B.Tech. degree and having a CGPA of 7.5 or above for SC/ ST candidates and 8.0 and above for other category categories can apply directly for the M.Tech program without the GATE score.
• Candidates must possess a valid GATE score.

M.Tech. - The candidates will have to produce a valid GATE scorecard and other relevant documents in original for verification.

IIT Madras MBA Eligibility

• Graduates in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/semesters) or 6.0 CGPA on a 10 point scale or equivalent in the qualifying degree.
• A relaxation of 5% in marks (i.e. min. 55%) or equivalent will be granted in CGPA (i.e. min. 5.50 on a 10-point scale) for the SC/ST candidates.

IIT Madras MBA Selection Criteria

Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of a valid score in the CAT Examination. Only those who are shortlisted by the respective institute will be invited to the interview process (the Written Ability Test and Personal Interview). Foreign Candidates require GMAT Score for admission to the MBA program. 

Graduates in any discipline with a valid CAT score and at least two years of work experience in the same organization can apply under sponsored category through proper channel.

Shortlist for the interview process for all the four institutes will be announced in the common portal. After this, candidates are required to upload copies of the necessary certificates. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the composite score. The composite score will be calculated on the basis of:
