Queen Mary's College is an autonomous government college located in Chennai and was founded in July, 1914 as the first college in the city solely for women. It also claims to fall in the list of first three women colleges in the country. It was started as Madras Women’s College with a capacity of 33 students in a building known as Capper house.

College gained its present name in 1917 and permanent status a year later. The college celebrated its Diamond Jubilee with full pomp and vigour in the presence of late PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi. It has been running successfully for more than 100 years and has commemorated each achievement with a building for expanding its education facilities.

Queen Mary’s College came into existence in 1915 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The college is affiliated to University of Madras, Chennai.

The college offers BA, B.Com and B.Sc. courses at the UG level and MA, M.Sc., and M.Com at the PG level. In addition to this, Queen Mary College is also known for offering research courses of M.Phil and Ph.D.

• Candidates are selected on the basis of the entrance examination conducted by the University of Madras, which consists of a written test and an oral test.

Queen Mary’s College offers BA in 9 specializations, B.Sc in 11 specializations, BCA and B.Com courses at the UG level. The basic eligibility criterion to take admission is 10+2 qualification from Tamil Nadu State Board/ CBSE or any other equivalent board.

Selection of the candidates is based purely on the merit of the qualifying examination along with an interview conducted by the counselling committee of the college.

Key Points:

• Candidates who have appeared in the final year of the qualifying examinations are eligible to apply on provisional basis.
• Candidates must be 24 years of age as on July 01 of the academic year. The physically handicapped candidates are given a relaxation of up to 2 years.

Queen Mary’s College, Chennai offers 6 specializations in MA, 11 in M.Sc. and an M. Com course at the PG level. The basic eligibility criterion to apply is a graduate degree in relevant subjects from University of Madras or other equivalent universities. Candidates are selected on the basis of their merit in graduation, followed by personal interview of the candidates.

Note: Separate quotas are available for Sports, Physically Challenged, Tamils from Andaman & Nicobar and wards of Ex-Servicemen.

Queen Mary College Ph.D. & M.Phil Admission 2020

Queen Mary’s College offers 12 specializations in M.Phil along with Ph.D. in 9 specializations at the research level. The basic eligibility criterion for M.Phil is a Master’s degree in the related subject, while for Ph.D., a Master’s/ M.Phil/ M.Litt degree in the relevant subject is required to be eligible.

Selection is based on the score of the candidates in the entrance examinations conducted by the University of Madras, followed by an oral test.

Key Points:

• Ph.D in Mathematics and Geography are available in both full time and part-time modules.
• Candidates with valid qualification in UGC-NET/ CSIR-NET are exempted from the written examination.
• Teachers working in the affiliated college are also exempted from the written examination for Ph.D.

Queen Mary College Application Process 2020

The applications are invited in offline mode only. To apply for admission in the college, candidates must follow the below-mentioned steps:

• Candidates can obtain the prospectus and application form from the admission office along with the card with dates of Counselling for UG and PG courses by paying INR 27 in cash.
• Fill the application form correctly.
• Attach the following documents:
  1. 10th and 10+2 mark sheets and passing certificate
  2. Bachelor’s degree and mark sheet
  3. Master’s degree and mark sheet
  4. M.Phil/ M.Litt degree and mark sheet
  5. Caste Certificate, if applicable

Queen Mary College Scholarship Details

Queen Mary’s College, Chennai offers various scholarship schemes to meritorious as well as economically weaker candidates. These scholarship schemes include:

• Scholarship for SC/ ST Candidates: Candidxates belonging to SC/ ST categories are given 100% fee concession, provided they have 75% or above attendance.
• State Scholarship: Candidates with a family income of INR 12000 per annum and a domicile of Tamil Nadu can avail the State Scholarship for a period of up to 9 months.
• Scholarship by the Welfare Department of Govt. of India: Candidates belonging to converted Christian adi dravidar with a family income of INR 50000 or below are exempted from paying the semester and special fees.
• Central & State Scholarships: SC/ ST candidates availing the hostel facilities are provided with loans and scholarship of INR 6500 for UG programs and INR 7000 for PG programs.

Scholarship for MBC Candidates: Candidates with a family income not exceeding INR 50, 000 are eligible to avail concessions on books and hostel fees.
