The University of Calicut, also called Calicut University, is known for being Kerala's largest university. It was founded in 1968 through a government plan executing the bifurcation of Kerala University. Currently, the public university consists of 426 colleges and 30 academic postgraduate departments.

It also has off-campus centres in Malappuram, Thrissur, Wayanad districts, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Lakshadweep Islands. The institution offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and short term courses in numerous fields of education.

Calicut University Admission Process

The Directorate of Admissions (DoA) administers the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) to grant admissions to various programmes offered by Calicut University and the colleges affiliated to it. CAP provides students with the facility to fill and submit an online application for seeking admission in the course of their choices.

To apply for admission to the university, candidates must register online and pay the required application fee. Once registered, they can download the hall ticket for the entrance examination three days before the date of exam. Meritorious students will be given admission according to their performance in the test.

  •  For UG courses, candidates must have qualified their senior secondary examinations or equivalent examinations from a recognised board with at least 50% marks
  • Students seeking admission to PG courses must hold a bachelor's degree from a recognised college/university and must have qualified with at least 45% marks

Calicut University Distance Learning Programmes

Calicut University is renowned for its excellent distance education programmes recognised by the Distance Education Council (DEC). It offers various graduate-level, diploma and postgraduate-level programmes in various fields.

  • Students are given assignments and study material
  • Textbooks and syllabus for the distance programmes are the same as those of the regular programmes
  • The university's controller of examinations conducts the exams for the students enrolled in these programmes
  • Once the dates of exams are decided by the university, they are printed in the newspapers
