The New College, Established in the year 1971 on 15th June, The New College began offering Arts, Commerce and Science programs in the year 1975. The college is affiliated to the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It received recognition by University Grants Commission on 30th April, 1976 under section 2(f) and 12B. NAAC gave accreditation to the college with B+ Grade on 3rd May, 2004. Located in the heart of the city, the college is just 2km away from the very famous Mahalaxmi Temple.
A Multidisciplinary institute, the college offers programs in Arts, Commerce, Science, Information Technology and Management faculties. It offers both conventional and professional courses to the students. In the year 2001, it began the B.C.S. course, B.B.A. in 2007 and B.C.A. in 2008. The objective of the college is to offer complete personal, intellectual as well as physical development of the students along with academic focus. Since its inception, the college has been transforming students into cultivated and cultured citizens who can face the challenges of the future without any hassles.

The college offers BA, B.Com and B.Sc as Senior College courses. Students willing to get admission in the Senior College of this institute must apply as soon as their class 12th results are declared. The New College, Kolhapur Scholarships
Students who are from the backward community and are unable to pay their college fees can apply for scholarships. The students who wish to apply for scholarship should have to maintain at least 75% attendance.
- EBC/ Teacher/ Defense/ Ex- servicemen/ Freedom Fighter concession is applicable to only BA, B.Com, and B.Sc courses and not for professional courses.
- For OBC/ SC/ NT-VJ students whose parental income is between INR 1 to 4.5 lakh and ST students whose parental income is below INR 2 lakh are eligible to get freeship on producing sufficient proof.
- OBC students having annual income not more than INR 1 lakh have to produce certificate of income status along with Leaving Certificate and Mark sheet of the last examination attended.
- Student whose father is in Armed forces or is retired from Defense service is eligible for free Studentship.
- Concession is also given to students of parents who are teachers in Primary/ Middle/ High School and Junior College in Maharashtra state.
