VELS University Admission 2020: Courses, Entrance, Date, Fees, Result

VELS University, Chennai is one of the prestigious universities in India that offer a variety of courses including Maritime Studies, Nautical Science, Coastal and Ocean Engineering, Animation, Film and Television Production etc. under UG, & PG levels along with M.Phil & Ph.D. courses.

Candidates who are interested in admission in VELS University UG courses must have passed to be 10+2 examination with minimum 50% marks. While for PG and Doctorate programmes applicants must have a Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree respectively, with minimum 50% marks in aggregate.

There are three modes of application: online, by post and direct. Each method has its own benefits with a slight variation in the amount of the application fee. The admission process for each programme varies and a few notable differences could be:

• All the Professional course applicants will have to pass the VEE entrance exam which will take place in May. If a candidate clears the examination, then they will have to appear for a personal interview.
• For the other courses, admission will be completely based on merit and personal interview conducted by the university.
• UG & PG courses usually have a duration between 3-4 years (6-8 semesters) & 2-4 years respectively. The Doctorate programmes’ duration varies from 3-6 years.
• For Admission in MBA, the candidate must have CAT, MAT, XAT and VEE  score

VELS University BE & B.Tech Admission 2020

For admissions into both B.E. and B.Tech courses, the applicant must clear the entrance test VEE, which is conducted on an all-India level. The selection of candidates to the professional courses will be made on the basis of merit i.e. marks scored in the qualifying examination and the aforementioned entrance test. For programmes like Maritime Studies, one should also pass a Medical Test to be eligible to be applied.

VELS University UG Admission 2020: B.Sc, BA, B.Pharm, BPT, B.Sc, BCA, BCA Hons, BBA 

The university’s UG programme is as diverse and distinctive as its professional courses. But the admission into Vels University UG programmes is much simpler than its professional courses.

Each UG course has a plethora of eligibility criteria to be fulfilled. An eligible candidate will be called in for a personal interview, conducted by an appointed Committee of the University. And the admission to these courses will be based on merit and the personal interview.

VELS University PG Admission 2020

Vels University PG programme has a wide variety of courses. The aforementioned professional courses like M.E., M.Tech, and MCA do belong in this category. The common eligibility criteria for PG courses involve a Bachelors’ Degree, most often in the same field.

Admissions to PG programs need the candidates to have the approved eligibility and to have the minimum score in their qualifying examination. Selection will be based on merit and these provisionally selected candidates will then be called for an interview.

VELS University M.Phil & Ph.D. Admission 2020

For M.Phil admission, the candidate must clear a common entrance test, followed by an interview with regard to their research interest or area. The candidate will be selected based on the score from both entrance and interview.

For Ph.D. admission, the candidates must fulfill the eligibility criteria, clear the common entrance test and the viva-voce conducted by the university. Based on their performance in these they will be selected. At the time of the admission, the selected candidates should pay the research and admission fee without fail.

Application Process:

• Application form can be received from the University office 
• Application form can be obtained through the post in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favor of ‘Registrar, Vels University’ payable at Chennai.
• The filled-in application form along with all the enclosures mentioned in the form must be submitted to the university either in person or by post.  

Selection Process

• The provisionally selected candidates (either through the entrance test or through the marks of the qualifying examination) will be called in for a personal interview by the university.
• The admission of any candidate who fails to appear for the interview will automatically be canceled.
• Admission into the various courses will be based on merit and the personal interview.
• Once admitted into the course, the candidates and their parents will have to follow certain procedures - sign declarations, pay the fees and submit all the necessary documents/certificates, after meeting their concerned Head of Department.
• The original documents submitted at the time of admission will only be returned at the time of graduation, so make sure to take plenty of copies of those documents.
• It should also be noted that the fees paid will not be refunded at any point.
• If anyone decides to discontinue after admission, the student is liable to pay the fee for the entire course.
• Any candidates with a qualifying examination other than the HSE conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu should then obtain an Eligibility certificate from the Vels University by remitting the prearranged fee along with the application form.

• If applying online, fill in all the necessary details, attach documents and pay the fees through Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking.
• Or you can download the application and send the duly filled-in form with a DD for INR 900/- or INR 500/- (depending on the course) favoring ‘Registrar, Vels University’.
• The duly filled-in application form, registration fee along with the enclosures mentioned in the application form should be sent as a Registered Post to the University.
• International students need to attach the extra documents required of them.
